PLEASE NOTE! CLUB MEETING DAY HAS CHANGED TO THE  FIRST MONDAY OF THE MONTH STARTING IN JANUARY!!

 Thoughts from the President

When I think on the people and events of yesterday, the years gone by all seem to blend into a fog of appreciation and respect for their lives and the impact they have had either on my life or family.  Especially on the Wapiti Bowmen Archery Club.  We currently have this club because of their work and commitment, some of them for as long as 43 years.  If it had not been for those people the club would have died long ago.  Saying that it would be unfair not to give credit where it is due.

As we begin the New Year, 2012, we will have our first trail shoot on Jan. 14-15.  That event will help replenish our funds to pay bills, just like any family has. The Sunday of that shoot will be the deadline for early registration for our annual Banquet.  It will be held on Feb. 4.  You don’t want to miss it.  There will be good food, fun and games, good speakers and awards for the past year.  Call any executive officer to pre-register.  This newsletter has all of the info about speakers, and phone numbers.  The price for early registration is $25.00 until Jan 15.  After that it will be $30.00.  Register early so we can give our caterers an accurate count of the number we want to serve.  The menu includes prime rib and chicken with all of the fixings.

Following the Banquet later on in February will be our Wet n Wild Shoot.  You will find all of the dates for these on the current shoot card. If you don’t have one see our officers to get one.  Also that info is on our web site.

We will have on display at the Banquet all of the scrap books and picture albums that show events of years gone by.  Be sure to take a look at them, you will be pleasantly surprised by memories flooding through the fog of daily life, which remind you of special people and events enjoyed.  Hope to see you at the shoot and the banquet.

Harold

If you are an OBH member it is possible to vote for OBH officers online. I (Eva) went online earlier today and voted. The deadline for voting by mail will be February 17th; the online voting deadline will be February 22, or folks can vote at the OBH merchandise table at the Convention until 12 Noon on Saturday, February 25th. Whereas mailing in the ballot only allows for one vote per household. Voting online allows all members in the household to vote.  Not a bad idea since there are more than one candidates running for President.

********************************************************************************************************************************Wapiti Bowmen is interested in sending the newsletter out by email or at least to those of our members that have email the rest would receive it by snail mail.  This could help the club save quite a bit of money on postage and ink.  If you have an email address please send your name and email address to Eva at either eboard@wapitibowmen.com or evad250@comcast.net  with the subject NEWSLETTER.

We promise not to send you spam but only use your email for this purpose or in case of an emergency when we would need to get a hold of the membership quickly.  This is a promise!!!!

We have about 39 people signed up and in postage alone it has saved us about $26.00 and about $138.00 in ink & paper cost.  Please help us if you have an email address. Besides it is faster and the newsletter is fancier in email.

We will be discreet about your email addresses and not give them out to others. I know privacy is an issue for many and we will try to respect this.

HUNTERS CAN HELP PREDATOR FUNDING

If you are concerned about the impacts that predators, such as cougars and coyotes, are having on deer, elk, other wild game and livestock, I hope you are aware that hunters can now voluntarily contribute toward local predator control programs.  The 2011 Oregon Legislature approved HB-3636 which allows hunters to donate from $2 to $100 dedicated to predator control programs through any hunting license sales agent or online at www.dfw.state.or.us

Funds from donations associated with hunting license sales will be divided up among counties, including Linn County, that have a predator control program where the license or permit is valid.  Non-hunters may also contribute to the program and designate which county they would like to support.

While voluntary predator control donations from hunters likely isn’t the long-range solution to funding an effective predator control program in Oregon, every little bit will help considering the current sad state of funding for such programs.  And, considering the serious inroads predators have made and continue to make on game animals and livestock, I hope hunters will step up and do our part (and, as usual, more) to help fund effective local predator control efforts.

Come out for the work party in February.  If you can attend you’ll get $’s off the cost of you next year’s membership so you can save some money with a little elbow grease.  Your help will be greatly appreciated as well! We could use some new & younger blood.

****************************************************************************************************************************************************************Anyone interested in painting fun targets for our open house shoot please call LaVaughn Miller, Phone 541-704-0167.  She is heading it up and would like to get it done this winter. This is for an open house planned for July 2012.

            Indoor shooting

Indoor shooting will start on Saturday January 7 and run through March 3rd. The shoot times are 6:30 PM. till 9:00 PM. on Saturdays, and 6:30 till 8:30 PM. on Tuesdays. We will be shooting the NFAA face at 20 yards. This is the target and format that is used at the state indoor Championship shoot at the end of February. Indoor shooting is excellent for focusing on any and all aspects of shooting form. One will not consistently be a good shot without good form. We like to see family and young people come out to shoot, and we have a portable target to bring the target up the distance that the youth will be able to shoot and have fun.

So if you are a good shot and want to compete at the state championship level, or you just want to become better, or if you are a family and want to have a fun time shooting your bows we would love to have you come and shoot.

If you want any further information just call Kathy Newton at 541-928-5233.
